FAQ

Is Physical Therapy covered by my insurance?

In most cases, insurance plans have physical therapy coverage. Many have a patient responsibility. You will be responsible for any co-pay or deductible at the time of treatment. As insurance plans are individual, you may call our office at 203-917-4792 prior to your first visit to have your benefits verified and we can alert you to any amount you may be responsible for. You may also call your insurance company to verify your outpatient physical therapy benefits.

What insurances do you accept?

We accept most major commercial insurances, Medicare/Medicaid and Workmen’s Compensation. Click here for a complete list. We also offer self-payment options for those who do not have insurance coverage.

Do I need to see a Doctor or get a prescription before I start physical therapy?

As of October 1, 2006, a Direct Access to physical therapy bill was passed into law in Connecticut. This allows you to obtain physical therapy services without a physician referral. This law is not meant to deter you from seeing an orthopedic Doctor, but allows you to receive immediate physical therapy care.

What should I expect on my first visit?

Before meeting with your therapist you will be required to fill out some paperwork. This includes patient history, insurance, and office policies. You may click here to download the forms and fill them our prior to your evaluation to expedite the process.

Your first session of physical therapy will last approximately 60-90 minutes. At this time you will meet with a licensed physical therapist that will perform your evaluation, attaining a detailed medical history and performing a comprehensive physical evaluation. Your therapist will discuss the results with you, answer any questions you may have, and initiate an individualized treatment plan and home exercise program.

What should I bring with me?

You should bring a license or photo ID, your insurance card, prescription (if applicable) and any pertinent test results such as MRI/x-ray/CT scans that may be helpful in your treatment.

How long will sessions be and how long will I have to come?

Treatment sessions vary depending on your condition and the severity of your injury. Each session usually lasts between 60-90 minutes. Typically sessions are scheduled 2-3x/week but are dependent on your individual needs and will be discussed with your therapist at the time of your evaluation. You are continually being re-assessed to determine your individual treatment plan.

What do I wear to PT?

You should wear comfortable and loose clothing to therapy. Good and supportive shoes/sneakers are also recommended. If you are coming for a knee problem wear or bring clothing to allow for access to your knee. We have restrooms and private treatment rooms for you to change in.

What should I do if I am unable to make my appointment?

Greenwood Physical Therapy requires 24 hours notice for any cancellation. We encourage you to make up the appointment within the same week to maximize your rehabilitation. A cancellation fee may be charged for appointments cancelled with less than 24-hour notice.

Who will be working with me and will it be the same every time?

You will be working with a licensed physical therapist who will, along with you the patient, determine the appropriate treatment plan for your needs. We try to schedule you with the same therapist each session; however, if scheduling does not allow for this co-treatment will occur. Our therapists communicate frequently with each other to ensure everyone is working toward the same goals.

Will physical therapy be painful?

When patients come to us they are generally already in pain. We work to alleviate your pain as quickly as possible with minimal discomfort.
